ME: Please help me welcome Xavier Axelson today! Let's get right down to it.
XAVIER: Thanks for having me here today, Kellie.
ME: My pleasure. Now - I understand you write a sex advice column for the Los Angeles Examiner, and contribute to Queer Magazine On-line. Tell me more about this.

ME: My pleasure. Now - I understand you write a sex advice column for the Los Angeles Examiner, and contribute to Queer Magazine On-line. Tell me more about this.
XAVIER: The Examiner kind of started on a whim and then became its own thing. I started off thinking I would be writing just about sex but found myself veering off into counter-culture celebrities and people who do anything from running burlesque clubs to erotic artists to most recently the woman who did the voice for Jem back in the 80’s. The column is a trip. Queer Magazine Online came from me emailing them about doing an author spotlight on me and then from there they asked me to contribute weekly guest blogs and the rest is history. Starting in November, I will also be a regular columnist over at All Bear Magazine, which caters to the Gay Bear Communities.
ME: So, what prompted you to write in the erotic genre?
XAVIER: I was prompted to write erotica because of an article I read a year ago in the LA Weekly about women writing Gay erotica. I had written erotica for myself and thought there might be something worth submitting and so I did.
ME: What was your first published piece?
XAVIER: “Serpentigena,” was my first published piece. It was a short story retelling the Medusa myth. I felt it only fair that Medusa had her revenge.
ME: Interesting! So, what is your newest release?
XAVIER: “The Incident,” with Seventh Window Publications is my latest. It’s about a small town cop who is facing his personal demons, forbidden love and the process of personal forgiveness. Something light. J
ME: Let's check out the blurb, shall we?
Blurb:
Blurb:
Officer Michael Carmac is a small town cop whose life is turned upside down by a horrific incident that neither he, nor the community he serves can forget. While Michael’s long-time friend and partner officer Bertram Angel offers support and friendly companionship during Carmac’s ordeal, Michael soon finds his feelings for Angel turning from friendship to something more. As Michael’s thoughts of guilt and personal responsibility over the incident intensify so do his emotions for Angel and the realization that love may be the only way to heal his wounded heart.
ME: Sounds like a great read! You write articles and books. How is the process different?
XAVIER: Writing articles is something that has evolved within me. I find that with each one, I become a little better. Practice really does make perfect (damn it!) J
I really am a fiction writer. I struggle with non-fiction. I’m too much of a dreamer to really pin down details. That said, I took a creative non-fiction class recently and enjoyed the challenge and found that when pushed I could write non-fiction and enjoy it.
ME: Excellent! It's important to challenge ourselves. Tell me - who are your favourite fiction authors?
XAVIER: Anyone brave enough to go through the publishing process is my favourite.
ME: If readers were to look at your nightstand, what book would they find you reading right now?
XAVIER: Serpentine by Thomas Thompson
ME: Now on to some personal questions. Tell me a little about your childhood. Did you consider yourself a writer even way back when?
XAVIER: I grew up in an eenie weenie East Coast town; not unlike what you read about in a Stephen King novel. I am one of three kids, the eldest and cutest, lol. I would say I have always written but didn’t consider myself a writer until I was published. It’s kind of like people who think they are bisexual but have never had sex. I didn’t think I could really call myself a writer until I saw something in print.
ME: How do you remain true to yourself when faced with bad reviews or when personal relationships take a
turn for the worse?
XAVIER: I find that the best way to deal with both these situations is to take the high road (I know, easier said then done, and who am I to talk?) That is what I strive to do. I can’t control anything or anyone but myself and that’s a big enough job to deal with.
ME: Truer words were never spoken. What are your plans for 2011 and beyond?
XAVIER: To keep writing, keep dreaming and keep evolving.
ME: My motto exactly. If you'd like to visit Xavier here are his links:
